new short story

So I got a chance to do a small piece for my friend Philip Simon at Dark Horse.  It's a 'fan' pic of one of the characters from their new manga Gate 7.

Along with the DH piece I'm also working on illustrating a short story in Devon Deveraux's Hot Rod Horror anthology.  I had to take a small break from The Showdown to work on this and to get ready for teaching, but I'll pick back up on The Showdown at the end of the month. Here are some pencils from the short story.

Life Drawing

got back from the San Diego Comic Con this week. I had a wonderful time and was able to get some life drawing done at the Trickster event, after hours.  One of the great things was being able to sit next to David Mack and watch his simplicity of line while drawing.  The man does not waste a line at all. It's something to think about the next time I pick up a pencil.

I also got to meet some amazing creators and artist, especially France Vallejo, who I've been following here on blog spot, His drawings are amazing.  Got to hang with my friend Jason Shawn Alexander who is currently working on paintings with Jim Mahfood as well as finishing up for the Art Basil show in Miami.  All in all, a life changing event.

here are some drawings. enjoy.

Eye sketch and drawings

Sorry I've been gone for so long, holdiays and the cold have taken up a bit of my time to post anything. Here are two drawings with the same theme. I've been working with this idea of as an artist, I spend most of my waking hours conscientiously observing and studying things, to log into my brain as reference for my art. This might also harken back to to the days of my you when I was completely obsessed with the artist Pushead who did a lot of work for Metallica and was was exteremly good at drawing cool looking eyes and skulls.

The first piece is just a colored pencil drawing done in my sketchbook and the second is a detail of a 2 1/2x5' drawing pen and ink drawing I'm working on (sorry the photos is not the great).
